Jaguar 22 sailing boat - 6.7m (aka Alacrity 670 or Catalina 22) Safe, stable and easy-to-sail 3-5 berth lifting keel yacht with a reliable new engine. A renowned design still in production which can be trailer-sailed. Low maintenance, ready to go and in great condition. Currently ashore at Dell Quay near Chichester. 5hp Mariner engine with less than 50 hours use. Trailer not included. She has shallow bilge keels so sits flat on sand or mud and is perfect for creek-crawling, plus a heavy lifting keel and ballast for stable performance out at sea. Can be sailed single handed or with a family and is an ideal economical introduction to cruising. We have owned her since 2015 and had many adventures in Chichester Harbour and the Solent. She was built by Hurley Yachts in Essex in 1970 as an ‘Alacrity 670’ before they changed the name to ‘Jaguar 22’ the following year. They have a strong UK class association and are still in production, and are ever popular in the US under the name Catalina 22. Spares are available from Catalina Direct in the US. She has a reliable 5hp Mariner long shaft 4-stroke outboard with 25 litre external fuel tank. It has been used for less than 50 hours, starts first time and is serviced annually. It was new in 2015 and cost £1,000. Her cabin officially sleeps 4-5 and has sitting headroom. In reality this means two adults and up to three young children, or three adults. The table in the main cabin converts into a small double bed. It’s too short for me at 6’1” but I can sleep comfortably on the long single starboard berth or the double ‘V-berth’ up forward which also makes a great childrens’ den. She has an excellent double-burner spirit stove, a sink and draining board. Her sails, rigging and electrics are all in serviceable working order, although not especially new and I don’t know their age. The sails are in good condition though and include a roller reefing genoa with UV protective strip. Other extras include: • full navigation lights; • cabin lights; • twin USB and cigar power socket; • VHF radio; • marine12v battery (new in 2017); • gimballed compass; • transom ladder; • fenders; • warps; • CQR/Plough anchor and chain plus a spare folding anchor; • A-frame and boom crutch for mast raising and lowering; • harness point; • curtains and interior pads/cushions; • overboom sail cover; • horseshoe life belt; • other items shown in images not included in sale. Her anti-slip deck paint and timber washboards needs a rub down and a couple of coats but I am aiming to do this over the next couple of weeks, in addition to two coats of antifouling (Seajet Shogun 033 – Practical Boat Owner’s best rated anti-foul). A few isolated Jaguars/Catalinas have had problems with their keel bolts and their original ‘Ball-Head’ toilets. Ours were fine but as a precaution we had the keel bolts replaced and professionally overhauled in spring 2019, and also removed and sealed the old toilet. (Photos are available of the whole process and it is well documented on the Catalina Direct website.) We don’t miss the toilet as we are rarely at sea for many hours and find the ship’s bucket more than adequate, but you could easily add a Porta Potti for under £60 and it would stow neatly in the old toilet space. Ashore until April 11th 2020 when she will be lifted into Chichester Harbour at Dell Quay. Economical moorings currently available at Dell Quay via Chichester Harbour Conservancy or at Dell Quay Sailing Club (subject to joining). Serious inquiries only please – no time wasters please!
